Who is Ruling Pakistan, Taliban or Pakistan Peoples Party?

You have already heard the devastating news of two suicide bomb attacks in Islamic University of Islamabad today. So far 4 dead and 25 are injured.

After this incident, all the schools, colleges and universities in the Province of Punjab, Sind and NWFP have been closed. May be the institutions are also closed in Baluchistan but I have not seen the news tape about that.  So the Government is so helpless or afraid of these Islamic or religious extremists that they have closed all the educational institutions. Extremists have shown their ability to chose their target and attack at their will.

Government has shown their helplessness and have surrendered to the extremists. We as citizens of this country want protection which present Government has failed to provide us. This was government’s responsibility to track the perpetrators and take necessary action. We have only heard very feeble voice of Asif Ali Zardari and Yousaf Raza Gilani in condemnation. Condemnation does not protect our lives.

During the last couple of weeks you know these extremists commonly known as Taliban or what ever you call them they have attacked first World Food Program’s offices in Islamabad, CIA offices in Lahore then in Peshawar. All these attacks have been very devastating. Quite a number of innocent people have died.
Now the million dollar question is where is our Government to protect the people of Pakistan.

It seems Talibans are ruling this country

Our President asked the international community to give him one hundred billion dollars to fight extremism otherwise he can not do anything. Peoples of Pakistan voted to Pakistan Peoples Party to run the country. It had nothing to do with international community to give one hundred billion dollars.

Do the present government knows what to do?
Do they have any action plan?

Unfortunately answer to these questions is NO.
Government is telling us that they have started military action in South Waziristan and that will bring peace to the country. Is it true?

No!

They also told us that Baitullah Mehsud has been killed so now there is going to peace every where. That turned out to be mirage.
We ran a survey at Pakistan Forum about the ability of present government to solve the problems facing Pakistan. We will run the results of that survey tomorrow.
What do think about the present situation in Pakistan? Speak up and write in the comments.

India Blamed Pakistan Protecting Militants’ Satellite Phones

India-Blamed-Pakistan-Protecting-Militants’-Satellite-Phones

Today Indian Express has published a statement of Indian government that they have found evidence that Pakistan has set up an electronic infrastructer to protect Thuraya satellite phones used by Pakistani militants targeting India. According to Indian sources transmitters have been found along the Line of Control and Pakistan-Indian border which obscure the signals originating from the phones. Indian believe it could not exist without the implicit support of Pakistani government.

This allegation has come just a week before the the meeting of Foreign Secretaries of India and Pakistan to discuss steps Islamabad has taken to curb the terrorism directed against India.

Is Pakistan involved in this activity as India has blamed? May be? The problem is Pakistan has no credibility in front of world community. In November last year on the occasion of Mumbai terrorist attacks Indian blamed Pakistan and said they have evidence of mobile phone communication. President Zardari and Rahman Malik of Interior Ministry of Pakistan immediately denied the charges which turned out to be true later. So Pakistan should be careful.

If the Pakistani government is involved in this particular case the reason could be to shield it unsuccessful efforts to control militant activities. Why they cannot locate the people who are involved in these type of activities. May be Pakistan should seek help from India.

Unless there is a political will in Pakistan to curb the extremism, nothing is going to change. Recent events indicate government is afraid of religious parties and mullahs. PPP government is also afraid of Nawaz Sharif because he supports these mullahs and he has shown power to move the people with the help of TV media against PPP government.

Pakistan’s Current Reserve of Foreign Exchange

Pakistan’s-Current-Reserve-of-Foreign-Exchange

Pakistan’s foreign exchange reserves are dwindling by the day while Pakistan is struggling to get some cash from outside lenders. So far has not been able to get any cash.
Saudi Arabia has offered some help in the form of deferred payment for oil imports. In the mean time foreign exchange reserves are depleting very fast.

As of November 1, 2008 the total foreign
exchange reserves in the country were US $6.758 billion said State Bank of Pakistan on Thursday. In this amount State Bank holds US $3.529 billion and rest of the amount US$ 3.228 is with the banks other than State Bank.

Foreign exchange reserves has gone down to more than half during the last one year.
Since beginning of the year State Bank has been intervening in the foreign exchange markets by pouring in dollars to protect the extreme volatility and dwindling exchange rate of rupees against US dollar.

This support given to rupee resulted in sharp depletion of
foreign exchange reserves. It did not succeed in stopping the rupee’s slide anyway.

Since January 2008 rupee has lost about 32 percent of its value against US dollar.

Political and economic uncertainty in the country has been another factor which effected rupee very badly. Government still don’t have any action plan to get the country out of economic turmoil other a loan under approval process from IMF.

At present one US dollar is around 80 rupees. It may go further down.

Pakistani Troops Fire Across Line of Control

Pakistani-Troops-Fire-Across-Line-of-Control

Press Trust of India has reported that on October 27, 2008 Pakistani troops fired rocket-propelled grenades and mortars at Indian posts along Line of Control in Kashmir state. According to this news 10 shells were fired in a half-hour period in the Poonch District. No casualties were reported. Pakistan has not reported or commented on any such incident. Should we consider this incident anything significant? This is may be too early to say. Zardari was seeking good relations with India. In such situation starting such activities means what? Did Indians attack Pakistan and now they are blaming Pakistan.

I don’t know. However, such skirmishes are rountine things on Line of Control but the timings do not match with the intentions of both countries.

America or Any Other Country Should Not Interfer in Pakistan’s Affairs – Nawaz Sharif

America-or-Any-Other-Country-Should-Not-Interfer-in-Pakistan’s-Affairs

Democracy Don’t Take Instructions From Anybody It Tells Them What To Do Asif Ali Zardari, Co-Chairman of PPP.

This is what Nawaz Sharif (PML-N) and Asif Ali Zardari (PPP) said.

Well, I have a couple of questions for both of them.

When Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif were lobbying in the US and the UK to get back into Pakistani politics what you call that activity. That was not inviting foreign countries to interfere in Pakistan’s affairs.

When America was involved in drafting NRO (National Reconciliation Ordinance) that was not interference in Pakistani matters.

When Nawaz Sharif approached Saudi King Shaikh Abdullah to get out of the jail that was not interference in Pakistani legal system.

We did not know earlier but now we learned that Britain was also involved in NRO activities. Was this not the result of success of lobbying done by Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif in the UK.

When Zardari and Nawaz Sharif made trips to Saudi Arabia to seek their help to displace Pervez Musharraf. What you would call this?

When you approached US administration through Saudi Arabia to seek the trust of US government. What you would call this?

Did money change hands in all these lobbying activities. Or the lobbyist in the US and UK were doing all this work just for God sake (fe sabililah).

Recently, Mr. Muqran, Chief of Saudi Intelligence Agency visited Pakistan and met with you, did he come to make a program with you to pray together in Mecca?

Don’t tell us you have not been inviting and involving foreign governments and persons for your malicious motives and personal benefits.

What a joke. Anything said and done by Zardari and Sharif is according to democracy everything else is dictatorship.

Pakistan – A Nation Divided

Pakistan-A-Nation-Divided.

This is the first time in the history of Pakistan that the Army, the President and the Prime Minister had their three separate functions to celebrate the Independence Day.

That tells you all and everything.

I am not a seer. I cannot predict the future but this day August 14, 2008 may be the beginning of the end of democracy in this country.

The politicians are telling us their personal revenge agenda as the problem of democracy.  This is not going to bring stability and prosperity to the people.

If these politicians did not pay attention to the real problems of the country very soon the people will continue to suffer and this country will continue to plunge in misery and anarchy. Political and financial stability will become only a dream.

This time Army will not come to rescue the people.  They had enough share.

But since that is the only entity which is functional in this country so they do feel their responsibility when the people are helpless in the hands of politicians.

But this time when they will come they will not come to leave.
