Pakistan – A Nation Divided

Pakistan A Nation Divided

This is the first time in the history of Pakistan that the Army, the President and the Prime Minister had their three separate functions to celebrate the Independence Day. That tells you all and everything. I am not a seer. I cannot predict the future but this day August 14, 2008 may be the beginning of the end of democracy in this country. The politicians are telling us their personal revenge agenda as the problem of democracy.  This is not going to bring stability and prosperity to the people. If these politicians did not pay attention to the real problems of the country very soon the people will continue to suffer and this country will continue to plunge in misery and anarchy. … [Continue reading]

MQM’s Stance on Impeachment of Pervez Musharraf

MQM has decided to side with President Pervez Musharraf (at least for now). To tell you the truth that surprised me. I was thinking Mr. Zardari will offer some deal like withdrawl of all cases against MQM workers including Altaf Hussain as a bait to MQM to get their support. Either PPP did not offer anything or MQM stood on its own to do what they thought is right. What ever is the reason, I think MQM's decision is right and good for them in the long run. MQM had (and still has to some extent) a little tarnish image. But MQM has their vote bank. They should depend on that and not on temporary benefits. In the short term MQM may have to lose their governorship and a couple of … [Continue reading]

At the highest level government of Pakistan trying to get her out of the jail in the US. Why? Today … [Continue reading]

Re-Appoinment of Sind High Court Judges

Re Appointment of Sindh High Court Judges

Newspapers and TV channels reported in the last couple of days about the reinstatement of eight Sindh High Court judges as a "surprise move by President Pervez Musharraf". This initiative was not taken by the president. The PPP took the initiative and Prime Minister after consultations with Law Ministry sent the summary to President to approve. President approved and sent the approval back to Prime Minister for implementation. These judges were going to take a new oath. The government issued the appropriate notification which was later withheld because Nawaz Sharif got angry that he was not consulted. On Tuesday, the discussions which were going on between Nawaz Sharif … [Continue reading]

Governing Coalition Parties Charged President Musharraf

Governing Coalition Parties Charged President Musharraf

Nawaz Sharif (PML-N) and Asif Zardari (PPP) along with their coalition partners in the government formally charged President Prevez Musharraf on three counts using Article 47 of the constitution of Pakistan. They want to remove the president by impeachment. The three charges they have mentioned in the press conference are as follows: President has not obtained his confirmation from the newly elected National Assembly. President has not addressed the National Assembly. President is responsible of the mismanagement during the last eight years and because of that  there is increase in prices in daily commodities and others economic problems. PML-N and PPP now are preparing the formal … [Continue reading]

Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani’s Visit to America

Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani Visit to America

Why he is going there? What he is going to get there? Pakistan’s Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani is going to the US to seek political support. During this visit, the US Administration is going to deliver some key policy messages to him. America's main concern is inability of Pakistan's government to curtail terrorist activities in the border areas with Afghanistan and Taliban’s use of tribal areas as safe heaven. While Pervez Musharaf's policies were very clear on this issue, the new government has not been able to devise a coherent policy to deal with this issue. Americans are going to tell Mr. Gilani about their dissatisfaction in stern words. In fact, they have already … [Continue reading]

By: NAHAL TOOSI, Associated Press Writer Thu Jul 24, 10:50 AM ET KABUL, Afghanistan - The Taliban have created a sophisticated media network to undermine support for the Afghan government, sending threats by text message and spreading the militia's views through songs available as ring tones, according to a report released Thursday.
